On 30 September and 1 October 2026, the University of Zaragoza held the XIX Jornadas de Innovación Docente e Investigación Educativa at the Paraninfo building. GENCI members took part in two poster sessions, showing how transfer of research findings, sharing teaching initiatives that train students and early-career researchers in the communicative and transversal skills that research careers now demand.
“From Lab to Screen: Teaching Multimodal SciComm in English through Short-Form Videos”
In the first poster, Ana Cristina Vivas-Peraza and Rosana Villares presented a teaching initiative in collaboration with the BIFI research institute, where master’s students learn to communicate scientific content in English through short-form videos. Producing these videos requires students to adapt specialised knowledge for non-expert audiences. They also have to combine verbal, visual and audio resources to tell a clear and engaging science story. The infographics produced for this work are openly available on Zenodo.

“Desarrollo de competencias de gestión del proyecto de investigación para doctorandos noveles: pensamiento crítico, resolución de problemas y gestión del tiempo”
In the second poster, Rosana Villares and Oana Maria Carciu focused on doctoral education. Their work addresses a need often overlooked in early PhD training: managing a research project. The initiative helps first-year doctoral students develop critical thinking, problem-solving and time-management skills. The positive feedback gathered through exit tickets, self-assessment questionnaires, and satisfaction surveys shows the relevance of the proposal.
